Zeiss 'blc' 7x50 UDF U-boat deck binoculars

£3,495.00Price

A very nice pair of the highly sought-after Carl Zeiss 'blc' coded 7x50 UDF U-boat deck-mounted binoculars! Originally found in Scotland, having almost certainly come from one of the numerous U-boats surrendered and stored there at the end of WWII prior to Operation Deadlight.

Each U-boat would have carried two of these binoculars (one as a spare), with this particular optic being mounted at the front of the U-boat conning tower. They were a key part of the U.Z.O. (Uberwasser Ziel Optik or U-boat aiming optics) that was used to launch torpedo attacks on vessels whilst surfaced.

They are produced with a solid bronze body to ensure they were pressure resistant down to ~300m depth and, as such, could be safely left attached to the exterior of the U-boat in the event of performing an emergency dive manoeuvre.

This particular example remains in full original condition. Whilst there are clear signs of use, as you would expect, and indeed probably wish to see from such a piece; the majority of the wartime paint layers still remain nicely intact.

A scarce and highly desirable early production example, with the inscribed inventory number and early KM Reichsadler eagle property markings.

The optics produce a truly excellent image - with the vertical torpedo aiming line reticule still present and perfectly visible inside!

Arguably the most iconic of all U-boat related binocular optics, and one which would make for a stunning centrepiece within any collection!
