Zeiss 7x50 Kriegsmarine armoured U-boat binoculars + case
A very scarce pair of early to mid-war era Kriegsmarine 'smooth ocular' U-boat binoculars, still fitted with the very rarely seen objective rubber armour, and complete with KM case - exactly as they were found!
This pair are very nicely and clearly inscribed with the Carl Zeiss Jena maker's logo, as well as the KM property markings which remain completely intact. The 'N' designation for Nordsee (North Sea Fleet) issued and inventory number are also present.
If desired for use, the optics will require a full internal service/overhaul to return them to a fully functional state.
As depicted, they also come with the original KM Presstoff leather case with which they were found. This item again features a clear, intact KM property marking - as well as the 'beh 1943' maker and date code for Ernst Leitz Wetzlar. Whilst obviously not a factory combination, it would seem extremely plausible that this case was subsequently acquired by the user for this binocular due to the increased width of the piece with the objective rubber armour fitted in place - and, as such, the optic no longer fitting inside the factory issued Zeiss case.
In a decade of collecting optics this is one of only a very small handful of surviving 7x50 sets which we have seen with the original wartime objective rubber armour, almost certainly for use aboard a U-boat, still fitted.
A guaranteed original example that would make for a wonderful, unique display set within any KM and U-boat focussed collection!
