Two-tone camouflage MG34/42 aluminium ammo box
An MG34/42 ammo box that certainly didn't sit the war out!
This lightweight aluminium Patronenkasten 34 clearly started out life in the pre-war, factory-applied 'Reichswehr' camouflage pattern - before this was overpainted in the typical early-war period field grey; before subsequent tropical tan and green camouflage layers!
The box is retained in completely untouched and uncleaned condition, as found. Includind the name 'B Cotterill' inscribed on one side, as shown - presumably that of the British veteran who obtained the piece as a souvenir. It also still retains all of the original leather handle covers, which very scarcely survive on such an early, pre-war box.
Note that there is some battle damage, relating to the absent main latch handle. However, the box can still be opened/closed and locked shut regardless of this.
Overall, a lovely honest example of a rare guaranteed original camo MG34/42 ammo box in an appealing pattern!
