Kriegsmarine U-boat Bordmutze cap U-124 emblem

£0.00Price

A very nice original Kriegsmarine Bordmutze overseas sidecap in dark blue cloth. This example remains in good used condition with the insignia remaining to the front peak.

Despite markings no longer being visible to the interior, the cap is a of a large size.

This one also comes with the tradition emblem for U-124 which has been applied to the left side, as found. The Edelweiss flower is predominantly known as the insignia of the Gebirgsjäger (mountain troops), yet it was subsequently adopted for this boat following the rescue of many of the her crew from the sinking of their previous boat, U-64, by the mountain troops stationed in Norway at the time.

U-124 was a type IXB U-boat and one which took part in a total of 11 patrols. During these actions it was responsible for sinking 46 vessels. Ultimately, however, the U-boat was to meet its demise on the 2nd April 1943 during a depth charge attack by two British ships.
