Deactivated 7.92mm late 1944 MG42 'swj'

£0.00Price

A stunning late-war example of the MG42 which was manufactured by Steyr-Werke under the late 'swj' maker code. The receiver is also date code marked 'PJ' for production during the latter stages of 1944.

The predominant feature of this particular piece is the finish; introduced late in 1944 as a result of the increasing desperation to quicken production speed. In this instance, the stamped barrel shroud and receiver are left in a clear coat finish, with the addition of nearly all other smaller component parts, most of which would arrive from various other factories/subcontractors, still being blued and hence resulting in the so-called 'duo-tone' finish.

A excerpt and image depicting another of these rare late-war MG42s from the Folke Myrvang authored MG34/42 UNIVERSAL MACHINE GUNS book (p.137) is included in the images above.

Note that some parts which are often missing or removed as part of post-war refurbishment are still included with this piece; including an original wooden buttstock with field-applied wire reinforcement, rear flip-up AA anti-aircraft sight and matching 1944 dated bipod etc.

A wonderful example that is the only example presently known to us to retain this finish within the UK, and would surely be a highlight within any collection!
