Camouflage MG34/42 alu. ammo box 'GJD 1938'
Here is one that has seen it all! This lightweight aluminium Patronenkasten 34 ammo box clearly started out life in the pre-war, factory-applied 'Reichswehr' camouflage pattern - before this was overpainted in the typical early-war period grey & brown spray camo scheme. Given the use this tin has subsequently gone on to see, the associated wear has nicely exposed parts of each of these layers.
The box is very nicely maker marked/dated 'GJD 1938' and Waffenamt marked to the top of the lid. It also still retains all of the original leather handle covers - which scarcely survive on such an early, pre-war box.
Note that one of the top corners has sustained some slight battle damage (pictured), however, this does not impact upon the opening/closing of the lid in any way, nor the locking mechanism.
A superb combat veteran!
